Animal Advocates rescues ill, injured and orphaned native wildlife for release back to the wild. Most animals that enter our facilities have been injured or left orphaned due to human activity. We rescue these animals while being a 100% "green" organization. Animal Advocates follows the three main principles to lessen our impact and the impact of others on the environment and animals. Reuse, Reduce, Recycle!
REUSE. Animal Advocates accepts used, damaged pet crates, supplies and cages that would otherwise end up in landfills. All of our large animal enclosures are made from used caging and fencing material. The roofs are made from used roofing materials. We reuse old sweatshirts by turning them into animal beds. We turn damaged dog houses and crates into nest boxes for wildlife.
REDUCE. Animal Advocates accepts unwanted food which reduces food dumped in land fills. We accept leftover food from catering companies and grocery stores. We also accept freezer burned meat, torn/open bags of food, over ripe fruit and vegetables, dropped flowers and other food items that would not be eaten by humans. Not only does the food not end up in landfills but it feeds hungry wildlife in our rehabilitation facility. The donor gets a tax write off and we reduce the amount of food we must buy.
RECYCLE. Animal Advocates is an almost paperless organization. What paper we do use is recycled, so are our ink cartridges. While we try to minimize packaging in what we buy, we make sure everything we do use is recyclable. Every single item that can be recycled is recycled. Any items that we can't find for free online are bought used. We also compost yard trimmings, herbivore poop and any leftover herbivore food which we use in our organic garden which provides food for the wildlife.
These are but a few of our many programs to reuse, reduce and recycle. We drive a gas saving Prius and most of our volunteers are vegan or vegetarian which helps the planet. All of our events are 100% vegan according to our vegan corporation bylaws via the Food For Thought Campaign. This saves animals, the planet and everyone's health. Every time we reuse, reduce and recycle it prevents usable goods from ending up in landfills, helps the community, environment and saves animals' lives. Because we are a non-profit recognized by the IRS the donor also gets a tax deductible receipt. If you'd like to donate to our organization, please, visit our website or Facebook page.
